NEW DMSO Resistant Peel Seal Heat Seal Rolls - for Automated Heat Sealers

BioSero is pleased to announce the launch of a new material specifically designed to overcome the problems associated with storing DMSO filled microplates at room temperature.

It is widely understood that DMSO, in its liquid phase, has the tendency to weaken the adhesive used in the construction of most laminate heat sealing materials. As a result of this, if the seal is removed from plates that are stored at room temperature for more than a few days, there is a tendency for the seal to delaminate, leaving the wells of the plate covered with the seal layer.

BioSero's partner has developed a proprietary new manufacturing technique, which totally eliminates the use of an adhesive between the peel layer and the foil substrate of the heat seal film. This has enabled us to produce a new product with the exact same peelable layer of our standard Peel Seal, but with the added benefits of improved chemical resistance.

To demonstrate this unique property, a selection of 96 well microplates were filled with 100uL of pure DMSO, sealed (170º C for 2.5 seconds) and stored at an elevated temperature (40° C) for 6 months. A number of plates were stored the right way up while others were stored upside down so that the DMSO was directly in contact with the seal. At the end of the trial period the seals were peeled off and the plates examined to look for signs of seal delamination.

The results conclusively show that in both storage orientations, standard Peel Seal suffered from delamination whereby part of the seal layer separated from the seal and remained stuck to the plate, still covering a number of the plate wells.

In contrast the New DMSO Resistant Peel Seal peeled away without a trace of delamination. No plate wells remained covered.
